Aston Villa fans have been told they “don’t know the half” of Jacob Ramsey’s exit after his move to Newcastle United was confirmed.

Ramsey’s departure from Villa Park has been on the cards for several weeks, and Football Insider revealed last month that Aston Villa were demanding £50million amid interest from Nottingham Forest.

Unai Emery‘s side have had a difficult window with Evann Guessand their only statement sigining of the summer so far, and Ramsey‘s switch to St.

James’ Park is the first of several potential first-team exits.

Newcastle stepped up their interest in Ramsey after reports surfaced that Aston Villa wanted to re-sign their former PSG loanee Marco Asensio, and that has culminated in the 24-year-old’s £39m transfer.

Newcastle overtook Nottingham Forest in the race to sign Ramsey as the Reds turned their attention to Omari Hutchinson and James McAtee instead, and the Villa playmaker will expect to make a big impact.

Villa faced off against Newcastle in their Premier League opener with a 0-0 draw in the West Midlands, with Ramsey absent from Emery’s squad altogether as the final stages of his transfer were completed.

The final boxes were ticked and Ramsey’s transfer for that £39m fee was announced on 17 August, but Tyrone Mings‘ reaction to Villa’s ‘goodbye’ post has suggested the move came in difficult circumstances.

Posting on his Instagram story on Sunday, Mings said: “Don’t wanna hear any bad words or anything negative on this name.

You don’t know the half.”

Football Insider Verdict

Mings’ assessment of Ramsey’s exit suggests there’s more than meets the eye to the situation which led up to his departure from Villa Park after 18 years, having joined their academy aged just six back in 2007.

An academy player’s exit will generate ‘pure profit’ to aid Villa’s difficult PSR position, but Ramsey’s sale won’t be enough to alleviate UEFA concerns over the spending Emery’s side can commit to this summer.

Ramsey’s departure has hit his Villa team-mates hard as they prepare to navigate another campaign on multiple fronts, with Newcastle adding top-class quality to their squad ahead of their own return to the Champions League.
